The Salties (Best Rap Album)

After three harrowing weeks of epithet-laden deliberation in Ultimate Salt’s situation room, adjourning only for the exigencies of burrito eating and self-abuse, we’ve finally reached a tenuous compromise that should satisfy both casual fans and aficionados alike.

So, without further ado, I present to you US’s 2011 winner for best album…

Jay-Z and Kanye West

Watch The Throne

Def Jam

As hard as I campaigned for Danny Brown’s spectacular but somewhat inaccessible release XXX, this was never a true contest. Jay and Kanye had everybody spellbound from the first day H.A.M. dropped. That’s not to say they don’t deserve heaps of praise for WTT, which stood head and shoulders above any other release we heard in 2011, but it’s likely we’d have glommed onto whatever it was they were selling because, after all, it’s Hov and Ye for chrissakes. Sure the album's all we-have-more-money-than-you-will-ever-see-in-your-life-so-suck-a-fat-dick, but the duo somehow manages to make listening to their brags a vicarious experience for us, and we love them for that. Thanks for the transitive swag, guys.

I don't know if "somewhat inaccessible" is a very fitting description of XXX.
